While Peter rescues civilians, he is assisted by a super-powered Harry, who learns about Peter’s double life. With Spider- Man 2, the developer has found what makes superhero stories worth telling (and retelling) and given its likable heroes the journey they deserve. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s gameplay and its previous iterations, similarly plays like the Arkham series, Assassin’s Creed series, and even Ghost of Tsushima. The balance of combat and exploration are the main aspects of the gameplay. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a good game stuck in a package that is far from ideal.

Most games set 1080p as the baseline for minimum requirements these days. The story swings just as elegantly between upbeat hijinks and solemn moments of reflection. The same can be said for both its heroes and villains, as Spider-Man 2 tackles the reasoning behind each character’s actions and the good that can hide in the shadows of evil. Following the conclusions of their respective solo adventures they’re now a tight-knit crime-fighting duo, but both are predictably still struggling to juggle their superhero callings with their personal responsibilities. It’s hard not to feel, though, that Peter’s inability to hold down a job or progress his relationship with MJ feels a little higher stakes than Miles… procrastinating over his college application? Wield Peter’s new symbiote abilities and Miles’ explosive bio-electric venom powers, and discover upgradeable, high-tech equipment that enhances the combat experience for extensive gameplay depth and variety.

It’s likely that the developers are focusing on the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine, and any new Spider-Man title will come much later. The focus on Wolverine could be another contributing factor as to why Spider-Man 2 didn’t get any new story DLC. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be exclusively released on PS5 on October 20, 2023 at midnight, local time. With users able to pre-download the digital game prior to its release, they will be able to play the game as soon as it’s available for play in the PlayStation store. Gameplay-wise, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is very similar to the series’ previous installments.

One of my criticisms of the first in Insomniac’s series was how uninspired many of the showdowns felt, with their quicktime-heavy fights making a light impact. Improvements were made in Miles Morales, but here in the full-fledged sequel, boss battles really come to life. You’re made to wait a little too long for them sometimes, but when they do arrive they never fail to excite.

And while we know Peter will be able to wield Symbiote powers at some stage, there’s no telling if Venom himself will eventually join forces with the spidey duo, perhaps uniting against the common threat of Kraven The Hunter. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a Spider-Man game without the man of the hour, Peter Parker. Players will reprise the role of Spidey in Insomniac’s sequel, stepping into the shoes of the friendly neighborhood hero – though he won’t be alone. The first full-fledged sequel is just around the corner, as the first-party PlayStation studio is close to bringing the Marvel icon’s next story to life. The Spider-Man 2 minimum specs almost completely mimic those of Horizon Forbidden West, which is no surprise given that both games are PS5 ports that use expansive open worlds with a high level of graphical fidelity.

It’s the best-written story in the series yet (if still a bit cheesy at times), with performances worthy of the script. It’s a real triumph that it manages to cover such a wide spectrum of themes without suffering from tonal thwip-lash. A particularly memorable mission under the dancing lights of Coney Island’s amusement rides is a highlight that manages to impressively capture the story’s essence and bottle up its emotional tension before emphatically smashing it.

A bird’s-eye assessment reveals Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) to have a more story-focused gameplay narrative compared to the sequel. It incorporates unexpected twists and turns that take you by surprise and really invest your attention and emotion in the narrative. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (2023) is more action-focused, so much so that the cutscenes can feel like a drag. It doesn’t necessarily make it a bad thing; rather, it develops a quench of thirst whenever the next action sequence cues in. These specs will let you run the game at 720p with 30 FPS using the Very Low graphics preset.
